Collection: Ruta
Ruta is a handmade ceramics brand located in Laranjeiras, Rio de Janeiro, that specializes in creating accessories and household objects. The brand was established in 2018, and all of the pieces are designed and produced by Camila Oliveira in a place where work is done slowly and calmly, in the time of clay. The brand's designs are inspired by geographic imaginations, such as routes, paths, and waters, and are characterized by asymmetry and irregularity in their shapes and colors.
Ruta's accessories are unique, lightweight, and durable, despite being made of ceramics. Each item features a silver base and is crafted from various clays, ranging from sand to black, which gives them their distinct look. The brand's signature enameling technique is one of the factors that sets their accessories apart from others worldwide. The Dila necklaces, on the other hand, are made of pure ceramics without enamel, emphasizing the beauty and simplicity of clay. The finish features natural stones and glass.
The processes involved in creating these ceramics are slow and meticulous. The first step is to mold the clay, which is then finished and left to dry slowly with constant monitoring. The first firing then takes place at 900 degrees Celsius, followed by enameling, piece by piece, before the final firing at a high temperature of around 1230 degrees Celsius. The ceramics are then ready for the finalization/assembly stage, which completes the process in about 30 days.
